Spotify Rolls Out Lossless Audio – What You Need to Know

This long-awaited feature lets fans experience music with greater detail, closer to what artists and producers hear in the studio.
What’s New
- Higher-fidelity streaming: Up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC across nearly every track on Spotify.
- Lossless indicator: A tag in the Now Playing view confirms when users are hearing the upgraded stream.
- Expanded settings: Low, Normal, High, Very High and now Lossless for Wi-Fi, cellular and downloads.
- Device compatibility: Available across Spotify apps and most Spotify Connect devices.
What This Means for You
- No action required: Tracks delivered in 16-bit will continue to stream at that quality.
- Full quality for new uploads: Any new releases uploaded in 24-bit or higher will be automatically delivered to Spotify in Lossless via ANS Music.
- Optional redelivery: Only needed if you want older releases upgraded to 24-bit; otherwise, they remain live and playable as before.
The Bigger Picture
As Spotify expands into podcasts, audiobooks and AI-driven experiences, the arrival of Lossless underscores that music quality remains central to its Premium service. For artists, labels, it’s an opportunity to present their catalogue in the highest possible quality on the world’s largest streaming platform.
